Macomb County Road Projects Begin Season of Construction

This is Michigan and that means it's time to take a look at the bridge and road repair scheduled for areas of Macomb County through 2011.

Are you familiar with the saying, "Michigan only has two seasons–winter and construction"? While winter may not have dealt its final blow yet, the season of construction is already well under way.

I-696 Overpass Repair

Contracting crews are set to begin preliminary work on a project to repair nine overpasses along I-696 in Macomb County on Monday, Feb. 28. The overpasses are located in Center Line and Warren between Van Dyke Avenue (M-53) and Groesbeck Highway (M-97).

The Michigan Department of Transportation expects this $10 million project to be completed in 2012.

14 Mile Road

An AT&T utility relocation project is currently under way on 14 Mile Road and is set to finish April 4. The project will close the right lane on westbound 14 Mile Road between Van Dyke and Hollingsworth.

Clinton River Bridge Replacement in Mount Clemens

Replacement of the Gratiot (M-3) northbound bridge in Mount Clemens is expected to be completed by April 30. Once replacement of the northbound bridge is complete, crews will begin replacement of the southbound bridge. This portion of the project is expected to be completed in November. The cost of the entire project is estimated to be $8 million.

MDOT Fun Fact: The southbound bridge "was originally constructed in 1920 and is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The aesthetics of the new bridge were chosen by the community to reflect some aspects of the historic bridge," according to the MDOT website.
