Macomb in a Nutshell: June 27

From weather and events, to the news of today, it's all told in a nutshell here.

  1. Seems we haven't quite shaken off last week's rain clouds, for there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon, and a 50 percent chance in the evening. Other than that, it will be mostly sunny during the day with a high near 81. We could see wind gusts as high as 24 mph, but things will calm down tonight. The low will be around 70 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
  2. In recognition of Macomb Township's German roots, we bring you the German Word of the Day: beide, meaning both, is an adjective pronounced [bye-da].
  3. In two months' time, Austin Catholic Academy, the first coed Catholic high school in northern Macomb County, will welcome its first freshman class. The school has been a longtime coming, but planning is in its final stages and this August, the academy will open its doors on 26 Mile Road in New Haven.
  4. The Fourth of July is only a week away now, and just about everyone is planning some sort of Independence Day celebration. We've listed numerous opportunities to pregame America's birthday party in "This Week's Events," and you can always check the Events Calendar for more activities.
  5. If you missed the St. Isidore Strawberry Festival this weekned, we have a photo gallery of the festivities, including mouth-watering strawberry desserts, fun at the dunk tank, dancing and more.
