Summer Fireworks Season Runs Through August

Macomb Township doesn't have fireworks for the Fourth of July, but there are plenty of displays in surrounding communities to fill the void.

Summertime in America is about three things: freedom, baseball and fireworks. Luckily for residents of southeast Michigan, there will be plenty of that last element of the equation in the upcoming weeks. While nearby fireworks displays will cluster around Fourth of July weekend this year, there’s a steady stream of action through the first week of August.

June 30-July 3: Salute to America fireworks at
Every day of the Dearborn museum’s annual tribute to classic American music will end with a Detroit Symphony Orchestra-accompanied fireworks finale. Tchaikovsky’s "1812 Overture" and live cannon fire will only add to the colorful display above the lawn seats at Walnut Grove historic district.

Advance tickets are available to youth members ages 5 to 12 for $12 and adults ages 13 and up for $19. Advance ticket prices for nonmembers are $14 and $22.50, respectively. For day-of ticket prices and more information, visit www.thehenryford.org.

July 1: Stars and Stripes Festival in Mount Clemens
The festival runs through July 4, but the Huntington Fireworks Celebration is scheduled for Day One. Sponsored by The Webber Foundation, the display starts at dusk on the Riverfront in Mount Clemens and is free. 

July 2: Stony Creek Fireworks
This display is set to launch from Baypoint Beach at Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township. The show starts at 10 p.m. and can be seen from anywhere in the park. There is no fee for the fireworks, but there is an entry fee for the park. Vehicle permits are $25 for an annual permit, or $5 for a single day permit. Guests should plan to arrive at least two hours in advance.

July 4: Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks
The annual Independence Day display will begin at dusk after a live performance by the Downriver Community Band at 8 p.m. The best spot for viewing will be , where admission for the event is free. Additional information can be found at www.trentonmi.org.

Aug. 6 and 7: Dearborn Homecoming Fireworks
The colorful climax to Dearborn’s annual summer celebration at will continue this year at dusk on both Saturday and Sunday evenings. Visit www.cityofdearborn.org for a complete festival lineup.
