Today's stories deal with sports, shopping and schools, a little something for everybody.

  • So maybe those summer days aren't as long gone as we thought. Today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 84 degrees. A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms will creep in this evening, but the low will only drop to around 67 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.  
  • Through Aug. 19, locations are collecting school supplies for Operation: Kid Equip. "This Week's Deals to Save Macomb Moola" found many of the items on the program's wish list at super sale prices around town. Help out a good cause, without breaking your own bank.
  • After finishing 0-9 last season, the Crusaders have literally hit the ground running during the first weeks of practice to turnaround their game and log a few wins this football season. Check out photos, video and an interview with the coach here.
  • Chippewa Valley Schools is partnering with American Academy to offer students who have dropped out, or in some cases, been expelled, the opportunity to still pursue their diplomas via online courses.
  • In recognition of Macomb Township's German roots, we bring you the German Word of the Day: zelten, meaning to camp, is a verb pronounced [tselten].
