The Lutheran North boys soccer team trains to retain its district title, Better Made comes to Macomb and amateur photographers get another chance to win a gift card by entering the Your Patch of Michigan photo contest.

  • A little warmer than yesterday, with mostly sunny skies making for a high near 80 degrees. There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening and the low will drop to around 66 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
  • The varsity boys soccer team won more than 20 games last season and a district title before losing in the regional semi-finals. This season, the team is training hard to retain its reign as district champions and advance even further in the tournament.
  • Michigan snack-food legend Better Made will host its 16th annual golf outing at this weekend. The event is private, but half the proceeds will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. 
  • Amateur photographers who haven't scored a gift card from the Your Patch of Michigan photo contest have another chance to do so this week. For the week of Aug. 21-27, the prize is a $30 gift certificate to (with locations in Rochester, Rochester Hills, Lake Orion and Troy).
  • In recognition of Macomb Township's German roots, we bring you the German Word of the Day: krank, meaning sick, is an adjective pronounced [krahnk].
