Township trustees meet to decide a contract with Waste Management for garbage collection in Macomb, Immanuel Lutheran Church prepares to host a Sept. 11 survivor and this week's deals save money on entertainment, clothes and more.

  • If the scientists at the National Weather Service are to be trusted, today looks like another rainy day. There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. and before 2 a.m., meaning cloudy skies for most of the day. However, the sun will sneak out and gift us with a high near 86 degrees. The nighttime low will be around 64 degrees. 
  • Sept. 11 survivor Jerry Molnar will visit Immanuel Lutheran Church this year on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to share his story of survival and ministry. Molnar eluded death three times in the World Trade Center and found his faith in the process.
  • It's Wednesday, which means two things, half the week is over and the publication of "This Week's Deals to Save Macomb Moola" by Jolyn Felten of Bargains to Bounty. This week's deals include Redbox freebies, back-to-school deals at Justice and energy savings from DTE.
  • The Macomb Township Board of Trustees meets at 7 p.m. today in the on Broughton Road, south of 25 Mile Road. One of the biggest topics on tonight's agenda will be approving a contract for waste collection services in the township. Waste Management currently serves the township and has offered a three-year contract that promises to save residents cash.
  • In recognition of Macomb Township's German roots, we bring you the German Word of the Day: wegen, meaning because of, is an adverb pronounced [vey-gen].
