Fried eggs, a Macomb County astronaut and a community garden raising food and spirits top today's headlines.

  • Jiminy Cricket! Leapin' lizards! Holy cow and all other exclamatory phrases apply to today's weather. We're going to see a high near 100 degrees with heat index values in the area of 110! If there was ever a day for A/C, Slurpees and ice baths, it's today. There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight and the temperature will drop to around 74 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
  • Ever notice that garden next to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School on Romeo Plank? It's The Gathering Patch. A community garden started by Immanuel, the various vegetables grown there are donated to "The Well" Soup Kitchen. The garden is always in need of volunteers.
