Today's News Fast: Sept. 16

Today's news touches on the weather, Halloween and local volunteers. Happy weekending, Macomb.

  • Another cool one. While it will be mostly sunny, the high will only get near 60 degrees today. It might be a good time to get out that comforter and keep it out as we'll see a low around 42 degrees tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
  • Tickets to the Halloween Hoopla are selling out fast. This year's family costume carnival at the Macomb Township Recreation Center includes the Trick-or-Treat Trail, Craft "Boo"tique, DJ, inflatables, magic show and more.
  • Working to raise awareness and funding for the East Africa famine and its victims, three Macomb Township natives walked 170 miles across the state in five days. This is their story.
  • Adopt-A-Highway is looking for volunteers to help with the final clean sweep of the season Sept. 24-Oct. 2. Groups of three or more people interested in adopting a section of available highway are encouraged to visit www.michigan.gov/adoptahighway for more details.
  • In recognition of Macomb Township's German roots, we bring you the German Word of the Day: aber, meaning but, is an adverb pronounced [ahber].
