Today's News Fast: Sept. 9

Today's news has a strong American flavor as we talk Friday night football, school tributes to 9/11 and local voices chiming in on Election 2012.

  • Rain, rain go away, come again some other day! Sad to say, there is a 40 percent chance of showers yet again today and mostly cloudy skies, with a high near 74 degrees. Showers will likely continue into the evening, too. The low temperature will be around 60 degrees, according to the National Weather Service
  • Hundreds of students and staff from and will join local officials Friday on a one-mile through area neighborhoods to commemorate Sept. 11. The schools will also be collecting donations for Lutheran North alumnus Sgt. Davin Dumar, who was seriously wounded while serving in Afghanistan.
  • Time for Friday night football! District rivals Dakota and Chippewa Valley meet under the lights tonight at Dakota's home stadium. The Big Reds will try to steal the Superintendent’s Helmet Trophy from its six-time Cougar owners. Look for Patch at the game, we'll be taking photos and grabbing video highlights.   • Republican U.S. Rep. Candice Miller announced Wednesday, Sept. 8, her endorsement of Texas Gov. Rick Perry in his campaign for president in 2012.
