Whiz Kid: MCC Student Blazes Trail of Success

After a rocky start, 16-year-old Taylor Nitzh has done a 180 in academics and put herself on the fast track to a life and career filled with promise.

  • Whiz Kid's Age: 16
  • Whiz Kid's School: Macomb Community College Central Campus
  • Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Seven months ago, Taylor entered the Michigan Youth Challenge Academy in Battle Creek–a program that takes teens 16-19 who need academic and social guidance. Taylor entered with very low scores and after 22 weeks, graduated with honors, a 4.0 GPA and ranked No. 1 in her class. With 19 ribbons upon graduation, Taylor also holds a record in the program for most ribbons received. She also received a certificate in law enforcement, 13 college credits, the Superintendent's Award, recognition as the Top PT in the Presidential Award and a scholarship to Macomb Community College. 
  • Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Taylor now attends Macomb Community College and has two part-time jobs. She will soon turn 17 and has plans to enlist in the Air Force as an MP, believing the discipline and structure of this position will help her finish her college degree. The positive outlook she carries with her will for sure give her a positive future. As she has quoted, "The world is mine and I'm going to run it."
