The 2013 "Run of the Dead" takes competitors through Historic Cemeteries in Southwest Detroit, Nov. 2

The Southwest Detroit
Business Association and Living Arts will host the 2013 “Run of the Dead”
5K/10K race from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 2 at the Patton Park
Recreation Center, 2301 Woodmere, in Southwest Detroit.  The event, which takes competitors through
two historic cemeteries, celebrates the Mexican holiday of Dia de Los Muertos
(Day of the Dead) that honors relatives and loved ones who are no longer among
the living.  The “Run of the Dead” will
feature awards for top male and female 5K and 10K finishers, prizes by age
category, swag bags with local treats, entertainment along the racecourse such
as guitarists, stilt walkers, singers, and a Living Arts Youth Ensemble dance
performance of the Danza de la Muerte (Dance of Death).  A special tribute to honor deceased loved
ones also will take place in commemoration of the annual Dia de los Muertos
celebration.  Participants are welcome to
wear traditional face-paint, flowers, and attire.  Halloween and non-traditional costumes,
however, are not encouraged. Registration costs for the 5K and 10K races are
$25, and $30 respectfully.  For more
information and to register, visit www.savorsouthwestdetroit.org.
