$510 Raised by Macomb Resident for Local Animal Rescue

Resident seeks $1,000 to benefit no-kill animal rescue.

An online campaign to help cover a local animal rescue has raised $510 toward its $1,000 goal.

Lauri Weingartz of Macomb started a fundraising campaign to benefit Southfield-based Almost Home Animal Rescue.

The campaign aims to raise $1,000.

Weingartz created the fundraiser on GoFundMe.com, and the campaign runs through Dec. 31. Patch has partnered with GoFundMe and is helping to highlight worthy campaigns in local communities.

The page reads:

"As most of you know, my passion and love for animals runs deep; especially for those without their forever homes. I was supposed to be a veterinarian but since my skills with math and science weren't too great that idea didn't pan out! So what's a girl to do? Well she decides that she can give back by creating her own non profit: Don't Leave Me A Stray! My mission is to provide resources to homeless animals. Since I do not have 501(c)(3) status yet, I have been providing resources to other nonprofits through donations!"

Weingartz said this is the third year she's solicited help to provide food, blankets, supplies and cash toward local animal rescues.

"I want this holiday season to be the best ever so I am asking you once again to help me and the animals," she wrote.

Donations, she wrote, will go directly to the rescue and will be tax-deductible. Donors can chip in in honor or in memory of a pet.
