Berville Man, 21, Killed in North Avenue Crash

Jacob Dubaere was driving southbound on North Avenue, when the 1989 Ford Ranger he was driving crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with a 2003 Mazda minivan traveling north.

A 21-year-old Berville man died Friday from injuries sustained in a multiple car accident on North Avenue between 23 and 24 Mile roads.

Jacob Dubaere was driving southbound on North Avenue with his twin brother, Joshua Dubaere, of Washington Township, when the 1989 Ford Ranger they were traveling in crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with a 2003 Mazda minivan traveling north, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. A third vehicle, a 1993 Chevy S-10 pickup, also traveling north, rear-ended the minivan.

Both Jacob and Joshua Dubaere were transported to Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. The driver, Jacob Dubaere, was later pronounced dead at Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center, according to the sheriff.

The driver of the minivan, a 42-year-old female from Mount Clemens and the driver of the Chevy pickup, a 53-year-old male from Harrison Township, were both transported to Mount Clemens Regional with minor injuries.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said his office will continue to investigate the accident, but alcohol does not appear to be a factor. Road conditions were wet at the time of the crash.

The accident, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. Friday, briefly shut down a section of North Avenue bewteen 23 and 24 Mile roads.
