Cheyenne Elementary parent faces disturbing the peace charge, ban from school grounds

The Macomb Township resident whose actions, police say, led to the lockdown at Cheyenne Elementary School last week is now facing a charge of disturbing the peace and a ban from all school property.

The school was put into lockdown Dec. 12 after administrators learned a suspicious person had entered the building.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the individual was later identified as a parent who had entered the school through a side door, rather than the main entrance designated for visitors.

“He knocked on the door but it was locked,” Wickersham said, in a previous interview with Patch. “Apparently kids came to the door, he threatened them to let him in, which they did. The individual then came into the school, walked over to where his son’s classroom was and exited the school a short time later.”

The resident has been charged with disturbing the peace, according to the sheriff's office. Should he return to the school, he could be arrested for trespassing.

Sheriff's Office investigates series of home invasions in Macomb

Macomb County sheriff’s detectives are currently investigating a series of home invasions that took place in Macomb Township during the month of November.

Sgt. Melissa Stevens said in each case, pry bar marks were found on the homes’ sliding glass doors and windows, suggesting this is how the suspect, or suspects gained entry.

Detectives have identified several suspects, but no arrests have been made at this time.

Stevens said all of the home invasions currently under investigation, at least eight, took place during the day.

Anyone with information on these or other home invasions in Macomb Township is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 586-469-5151.

On Dec. 18, at approximately 3:52 a.m., a 21-year-old Macomb Township man was cited for possession of narcotic paraphernalia and driving without a license on his person, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers stopped the man in the area of 26 Mile and Romeo Plank for speeding. Smelling a strong odor of burnt marijuana, the officer searched the vehicle and found a grinder and pipe between the driver’s seat and center console, according to the report.

The man was cited and released at the scene.
