Chippewa Valley Schools: Kiln Dust Set Off Dakota Fire Alarms

The Macomb Township Fire Department responded to an alarm at Dakota High School Wednesday afternoon. Students were evacuated, but the alarm was determined to be false.

Drivers along 21 Mile Road and Heydenreich Wednesday afternoon no doubt noticed the Macomb Township Fire Department at in force.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, fire alarms sounded in the main high school building and all students and staff were evacuated. Four engines responded to the alarm.

Upon inspection of the school, firemen determined the origin of the alarm was a sensor in one of the art rooms, according to Chippewa Valley Schools administration. This sensor is believed to have been set off by the dust which had accumulated on a kiln during the recent break. When the kiln was fired, this dust activated the sensor and set off the alarms.
