Sheriff's deputies were alerted to the theft shortly after midnight Thursday when a clerk at the gas station reported he heard someone on the roof. When deputies arrived, they found the two men attempting to leave the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies stopped the men's vehicle and further investigation revealed the two suspects had attempted to commit fraud by interrupting the satellite feed for the station's credit card processing system by placing aluminum foil over the rooftop dish.

The aluminum foil scrambles the outgoing transmission of the credit card data being processed, Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said. While one suspect covered the satellite dish with aluminum foil, the other swiped a credit card at the pump and began filling gas into 20 five-gallon gas cans.

Morris’ bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety, while Leak’s bond was set at 10 percent of $5,000, according to the sheriff's office.

The men are currently being held at the Macomb County Jail.
