Detroit Police Officer Larry Nevers, Convicted in Beating of Malice Green, Dies

Macomb Township resident Larry Nevers, one of two Detroit Police officers convicted in the beating death of Malice Green, died Sunday.

Larry Nevers, one of the two Detroit Police officers convicted in the beating death of Malice Green outside a Detroit crack house in 1992, died Sunday in Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, according to a report on clickondetroit.com.

Nevers, 72, a Macomb Township resident, was convicted of second-degree murder according to the Macomb Daily. The convictions for Nevers, and his partner, Walter Budzyn, were later reduced to manslaughter, according to the report.

Nevers was sentenced to 7 - 15 years in prison, according to WDIV-TV. While in prison he developed cancer and was released in 2001 to serve the remainder of the sentence, the television station reported.

Nevers' wife Nancy is currently serving her third term on the Macomb Township Board of Trustees.
