Don't Touch That Match! Macomb Bans Open Burning Due to Dry Conditions

With temperatures hovering around 90 degrees and no rain in sight, the has ordered an immediate ban on all open burning.

is allowed in the township with a permit from the fire department, but until Macomb receives "significant rainfall," the fire department says no permits will be issued for this activity.

This ban does not extend to enclosed fire pits, which are permitted in all areas of the township so long as the pit itself stands on a nonflammable base, burns only seasoned wood or charcoal and rests at least 15 feet from any structure, including a deck, garage or storage building, according to the ordinance.

Traditional dug-out campfires and other below grade fire pits are prohibited.

Water customers with an address ending in an odd number are to water on odd calendar days and those with an address ending in an even number are to water on even calendar days.

Customers are also required to refrain from any outside water use between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m., although a water user may manually irrigate residential landscaping utilizing garden hoses and sprinklers from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
