In Brief: Finishing Touches Put on Plans for New Ladder Truck

Another $8,000 is needed to make changes to the almost $900,000 ladder truck currently in production.

The price tag of the ’s is already close to $1 million, but about $8,000 more is still needed to finish the job.

A pre-construction meeting held at the KME Fire Apparatus factory in early February identified several changes that needed to be made to the truck's layout prior to completion and delivery.

“The main change would be to the layout of the compartmentation,” said Fire Chief Robert Phillips. “We had asked the company to provide us as large as compartments as possible and they were able to do that.”

The problem? The compartments are now about 5 ½ feet high and 30 inches deep, which could make it difficult for firefighters to access necessary equipment.

To solve this problem, rollout trays will be added to the compartments to allow for quick, easy access of the equipment stored within.

The truck is currently in production and is expected to arrive in Macomb Township in late June or early July.
