Judge Orders Closed Courtroom in Case of Assault on Dakota Teens

Judge Kimberly Wiegand ordered her court officer to close the courtroom during Wednesday's preliminary exam to everyone but the defendants, their attorneys, a Sterling Heights police detective and Macomb County assistant prosecutor Gordon Hosbein.

The preliminary exam for three men accused of assaulting four Dakota High School students was held Wednesday at the 41A District Court in Sterling Heights.

The men, Vincent Bosca and Gerald Henry King Jr. of Sterling Heights, and Allen Roy Brontkowski of Shelby Township, all 45, each of extortion, unlawful imprisonment and assault.

The exam was held in an empty courtroom following the defense attorney's objection that anyone slated to testify in the trial should not hear other preliminary testimony.

Judge Kimberly Wiegand ordered her court officer to close the courtroom to everyone but the defendants, their attorneys, a Sterling Heights police detective and Macomb County assistant prosecutor Gordon Hosbein.

The charges against the three stem from an incident on June 13, when it is alleged that Bosca had his son lure the teens to his home in the 13000 block of Canal in Sterling Heights with the promise of free marijuana.

Bosca told police he believed the teens were responsible for burglarizing his home, where he runs a medical marijuana growing operation, several days earlier.

Once the teens arrived, Bosca, Brontkowski and King, took them into the basement and bound them with duct tape, according to police.

Police said the men pistol-whipped one of the teens and struck them with the scabbard of a samurai sword. They also threatened to cut off the teens’ fingers and toes with a circular power saw that they held next to one victim's face as it was running, according to police.

The victims in this case will not be identified by Patch due to their age.
