Macomb County Sheriff to Enforce Seat Belt Use with Extra Road Patrols

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office will join other local police departments in patrolling seat belt enforcement zones during Click It or Ticket campaign, which runs May 21 through June 3.

Buckle up, Macomb, seat belt safety zones are now in effect and both the sheriff’s office and local police departments are stepping up their patrols over the next two weeks.

With the launch of the national Click It or Ticket campaign on May 21, Macomb County Sheriff’s Capt. Brenda Baker said the sheriff’s office has increased its own road patrols and will assist local departments by patrolling established enforcement zones during the campaign.

In the Macomb Township area, enforcement zones stretch along Hall Road, 23 Mile and I-94, Gratiot Avenue and 22 Mile, 23 Mile and Schoenherr, and 21 Mile and Van Dyke, to name a few.

"The Click It or Ticket campaign is one of the reasons Michigan has always been a leader in reducing traffic fatalities through a high seat belt use rate," said Michael L. Prince, Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) director, on the OHSP website. "Since their introduction, seat belts have saved lives, and we want people to take advantage of this simple yet effective safety device."

Michigan law requires that all drivers and passengers age 15 and younger be buckled up, regardless of seating position. Children must be in a car seat or booster seat until they are 8 years old or 4 feet 9 inches tall.
