Macomb Township Target Briefly Evacuated After Small Fire

Macomb Township firefighters quickly put out a small fire that forced the evacuation of the Target on Hall Road.

on Hall Road in Macomb Township was evacuated for approximately two hours Thursday because of a small fire.

Firefighters received a call from the store at about 8:15 a.m. and extinguished the fire by 8:37 a.m., according to Capt. Gary Ross of the .

Target employees had reported seeing and smelling smoke. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the uninterruptible power supply—a device that keeps the computer system running—was smoking.

Firefighters were able to control the blaze by using dry-chemical fire extinguishers.

There were no injuries and damage to the store was minimal.

Ross praised Target management for evacuating the building promptly.

“They did a very good job,” Ross said.

Fire crews left the scene at about 10:15 a.m., and the store was reopened shortly after that.
