Macomb Twp. Woman Faces Felony Charge in Fatal Groesbeck Crash

Katharine Reid Mitchell, of Macomb Township, was arraigned in 41B District Court today following Saturday's head-on crash on Groesbeck that killed a 52-year-old Clinton Township woman.

A 52-year-old Macomb Township woman was arraigned today on a felony drunken driving charge stemming from .

Katharine Reid Mitchell, of Macomb Township, was driving northbound on Groesbeck when she crossed the centerline and hit the car of Tina Marie Bates, according to witness reports taken by the Clinton Township police.

Bates died in the crash, which occurred shortly after 8 p.m. at Groesbeck south of 15 Mile Road.

Mitchell was arraigned Monday in 41B District Court in Clinton Township on a felony charge of operating a vehicle while using a controlled substance causing death and a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Magistrate Dan Goulette set her bond at $7,500 cash or surety. Conditions of the bond require Mitchell to wear a SCRAM tether while under house arrest.

The preliminary examination is set for Aug. 22 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Sebastian Lucido.
