Man Accused of Stealing $1,200 in Electronics from Target

A 26-year-old Algonac man is in custody after Macomb County Sheriff's officials say he tried stealing more than $1,200 in electronics from Target on Hall Road in Macomb Township.

According to the department, store personnel observed Rick Welchko of Algonac, who reportedly had a history of stealing from the store. Store personnel saw the man pushing a shopping cart around the store with items hidden under his coat, which was placed inside the cart. 

According to the department, Welchko reportedly passed the checkout and pushed the cart to the parking lot where he was stopped by Sheriff's deputies. The department indicated he had about $1,200 worth of electronics hidden. He was arrested on first-degree retail fraud charges. He was arraigned Nov. 18 at the 41A District Court in Shelby Township. The stolen items were returned to the store.
