Police: No Foul Play Suspected in Condo Fire

The Macomb Township Fire Department and Macomb County Sheriff's Office reported to a condo fire in the Windemere Farms subdivision Sunday night.

Although extensive damage was reported, no injuries resulted from a condo fire in the Windemere Farms subdivision Sunday night.

Capt. John Roberts of the Macomb County Sheriff's Office said the fire was reported at about 9:15 p.m. in the subdivision located just north of Hall Road and east of Heydenreich. 

Neighbors reported seeing black smoke billowing into the sky over the home and flames on the condo's roof.

Roberts said the family of four, including two children, living inside the home escaped unharmed, but were unable to return to the building due to fire and water damage. The family's two cats were lost in the fire.

Macomb Township fire investigators returned to the condo Monday morning to uncover the cause of the blaze.

Fire Chief Robert Phillips told The Voice that investigators suspect the the fire started when gas cans and a propane tank from the family’s barbecue grill ignited. The gas cans and grill were stored in the condo's garage.

Investigators will continue their work in an effort to uncover the exact cause of the fire. Foul play is not suspected.
