Suspected Drunk Driver Arrested with Child in Car; Tires Slashed on 3 Vehicles

Suspected drunk driver arrested near Dakota with 9-year-old in car

A 43-year-old Sterling Heights man faces operating while intoxicated and child endangerment charges after being arrested Friday near Dakota High School, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were patrolling the area of 21 Mile and Heydenreich shortly before 9:30 p.m. Friday when they saw the man rear-end a vehicle at the light near Dakota and attempt to drive away, according to the sheriff’s office.

The man was stopped and given a preliminary breath test. He registered a .17 blood alcohol level and was arrested for operating while intoxicated, second offense, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies found the man’s 9-year-old child in the car with him and turned the child over to its mother.

The man was taken to the Macomb County Jail where he later posted bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

Tires slashed on cars in area of 21 Mile and Romeo Plank

Three homeowners in Macomb Township have reported that sometime between midnight and 9 a.m. Sept. 23, an unknown individual slashed the tires on their vehicles, according to the sheriff's office.

The vehicles were located on Greenbriar, Meadowbrook and Riverhill, connecting streets in the area of 21 Mile and Romeo Plank. Sheriff's detectives believe the vandalism was random and not targeted to the three homeowners affected.

There are no suspects in the case at this time.
