Wandering Parent Forces Cheyenne Elementary Into Lockdown

The elementary school was in lockdown for a short time Wednesday afternoon after school administrators were made aware that an unidentified man had entered the school.

Cheyenne Elementary was put into lockdown around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday after administrators learned a suspicious person had entered the school.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the individual was later identified as a parent who had entered the school through a side door, rather than the main entrance designated for visitors.

“He knocked on the door but it was locked,” Wickersham said. “Apparently kids came to the door, he threatened them to let him in, which they did. The individual then came into the school, walked over to where his son’s classroom was and exited the school a short time later.”

Wickersham said the parent was identified through security footage and taken into custody to be interviewed.

As for possible charges, Wickersham said he is not ruling anything out.

“There was the verbal threat to get the door open and it could possibly be trespassing,” he said. “We have to look at the threat to the students who opened the door.”

The parent spent approximately eight minutes in the school itself before leaving of his own accord.

The school remained in lockdown after the parent left as an additional safety precaution for the students inside.
