County Sets Date to Register Macomb Township Veterans for Photo ID Program

Macomb County is bringing its veteran outreach program to the Marvin Blank Senior Center in Macomb Township on May 22, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Macomb Township veterans and their families are invited to the May 22 to learn about county programs and benefits available to them as well as to register for the county’s new veterans photo ID program.

Hosted by the township's County Commissioner Joe Sabatini, in partnership with the Office of County Clerk/Register of Deeds Carmella Sabaugh, and Macomb County Veterans Services Department, the event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at the senior center on 23 Mile Road.

All military veterans, active duty military and their families are invited to learn about the full range of programs and benefits available through the county’s veterans services department and speak with Sabatini on issues concerning county government.

Clerk staff will also be available to register veterans for a photo ID, which can be used for discounts at participating businesses throughout the county.

“The veterans photo ID card is one small way businesses and the county can say thank you to Macomb County’s veterans, while helping the local economy, without any additional cost to the county,” Sabaugh said, in a prepared statement.

Veterans interested in the ID program must bring a photo ID and their discharge papers (or “DD214” forms) to the event. Veterans who do not have their discharge papers may get them from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at http://www.archives.gov/veterans/.

Clerk staff will take the veteran’s photograph and obtain their electronic signature. IDs are $10 and by appointment only. Call 586-469-7935 to set up an appointment for the May 22 event.
