In Brief: County to Widen North Avenue From Hall Road to 21 Mile

The Macomb Township Board of Trustees has agreed to aside $350,000 from the 2014 budget to fund this construction.

The township board of trustees agreed Wednesday to commit $350,000 from the 2014 budget for the widening of North Avenue between Hall Road and 21 Mile.

North Avenue is currently a two-lane road, but Macomb County's 2014 Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) calls for the road to be widened to five lanes.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $3.5 million, but with the aid of $2.8 million in federal dollars, the county and township will have only a $700,000 remaining cost to split.

"We are committing to budgeting these funds and making sure those funds are available for our 2014 budget," said Clerk Michael Koehs at the board's Aug. 10 meeting.

With unanimous approval by the board, the township authorized the Macomb County Department of Roads to move forward with the TIP as proposed.
