In Brief: Hackel's Department Appointments Subject to Board Approval

The Board Operations Committee will review the four appointments made by Hackel at its Tuesday meeting in Mount Clemens.

The review process for the appointment of four Macomb County department directors continues this week with the Board of Operations meeting on Tuesday.

On March 3, Macomb County Executive Peter Provenzano as director of finance, Eric A. Herppich as director of human resources and labor relations and Robert P. Hoepfner as director of roads. He also named Clinton Township resident Rhonda M. Powell as director of senior services.

However, per the new county charter, the appointment of directors made by the county executive is subject approval by the Board of Commissioners. The board has 75 days to review the candidates and either approve or deny the proposed appointments.

The Board Operations Committee will review the four candidates at its meeting on Tuesday.

“We see this as an important Board responsibility outlined in the charter and it insures that collective and thorough consideration has been given to appointments for these key positions,” said Kathy D. Vosburg, Board of Commissioners chair, in a release. “We look forward to meeting with all of the candidates.”

Each candidate is expected to appear in person before the committee.

The Board Operations Committee meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday on the ninth floor of the Macomb County Administration Building, 1 S. Main, Mount Clemens.

The Board of Commissioners will give final approval, based on the committee's review, of these appointments at its meeting on March 24.
