Macomb County Department of Veterans Services Open Despite Shutdown

Macomb County veterans and their families can still receive important benefit information during the federal government shutdown.

The Macomb County Department of Veterans Affairs is open to serve veterans during the federal government shutdown.

The office provides information about benefits to veterans and their families including:  

  • Burial allowance
  • Dependency
  • Compensation for service-related death
  • Grave markers
  • Death pensions
  • Medal requests
  • Burial in national cemetery
  • Education for spouse and children

For more information, call (586) 469-5315 from 8:30 a.m. - noon and 1 - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday. The office is located at 21885 Dunham, Suite 3, Clinton Township.

New leadership

The Macomb County Department of Veterans Services recently appointed Laura Rios as its new department supervisor, following the July retirement of Kermit Harris.

“Laura has the leadership skills to make sure that the department provides great service,” said Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel, said in a release. “Her wealth of military experience will be an asset to Macomb County veterans.”

Previously, Rios worked as a veterans services officer for the Macomb County Veterans Office.
