Macomb County to Offer Free Paper Shredding, Medication Disposal for Seniors

Macomb County seniors will be able to dispose of medication, and have documents shred, April 11 at Freedom Hill.

Seniors in Macomb County will have an opportunity April 11 to dispose of unwanted medication, and  have personal documents shred for free, at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights.

Macomb County Senior Citizen Services and mobile shredding company, Absolute Shreds, will shred unwanted personal documents.

Additionally, Health Department officials and a deputy from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office assist seniors with the disposal of unwanted medications.

Pills must be removed from bottles and placed in a plastic bag, according to Macomb County. Narcotic painkillers and stimulants will be accepted, but must be placed in a separate plastic bag, officials added.

Macomb County seniors 60 years old and older can participate in this program from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, at Freedom Hill County Park, 15000 Metropolitan Parkway, east of Schoenherr in Sterling Heights.

This program is for Macomb County residents age 60 and older. Shredding is limited to four, 2-by-1-foot boxes per person.
