President Barack Obama: The president's campaign in Macomb County will originate from headquarters in Sterling Heights. The president hasn't scheduled any campaign stops in Macomb, as of yet, but his supporters are on the ground. In a recent speech by Congressman Sander Levin, D-Royal Oak, to Macomb County business and community leaders, Levin praised the effect Obama's policies have had on Macomb, namely the automotive rescue, drop in unemployment and added investment through the Recovery Act.

GOP Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney: The Michigan-born candidate kept his comments focused on the economy when he visited Shelby Township in February and later won the state's GOP presidential primary, taking 45 percent of the vote in Macomb Township. The and Republican Committee of Northern Macomb County (RCNMC) will be ramping up their efforts in coming months to raise November votes for Romney among the local electorate.

Macomb County Sheriff Incumbent Anthony Wickersham: Of the seven candidates running for sheriff in the August primary, four are Macomb Township residents, giving the race even greater significance on the local level. (D) has the advantage of name recognition, but Macomb Township has the population to influence the outcome of the August primary and November election if voters turn out in force for . The run-up to the August primary will be a test in the creativity and grassroots support of those campaigning.

Macomb Township Supervisor Candidate Janet Dunn: A longtime trustee of the township, came as a surprise to many. What was expected to be a battle between incumbent Supervisor Mark Grabow and candidate Charles Missig–both Democrats-turned-Republicans in this race–now includes Dunn, also a Republican. This race is one to watch.

House of Representatives Candidate Carey Torrice, District 24: With its lines recently redrawn, District 24 now includes a small portion of Macomb Township, in addition to Harrison and Clinton townships. , will run against incumbent House Rep. Anthony G. Forlini (R) and candidate Philip Kurczewski (D) in the August primary. This run marks Torrice's return to politics after her defeat in the 2010 democratic primary election amid a storm of controversy that included allegations of stalking her rival, Jeffrey Sprys.
