Macomb Township Seeks Slices of History

Old photographs or documents tied to Macomb Township might be collecting dust in someone's attic, but they're in high demand at town hall.

Township Supervisor Janet Dunn is pursuing her longtime goal of forming a historical society in the community with help from volunteers. Five people have recently stepped forward to join the group that aims to record the township's past.

“I’m trying to make people aware that I want those old pictures, I want those old documents for historical capacity," Dunn said.

The new supervisor became interested in township history because her husband's family is deeply rooted in the community. But several years ago, her attempt to launch a society got no takers, she said.

“I think it just takes one or two people that have the desire or enthusiasm for it to get anything going," Dunn said.

Macomb Township follows the lead of surrounding communities that have established historical groups, including Clinton, Shelby and Chesterfield townships.
