Meeting Minutes: Live-Blog of Wednesday's Board of Trustees Meeting

Join Patch as we follow the motions made by the Macomb Township Board of Trustees.

Building a vehicle garage for the township's SMART/Dial-A-Ride buses and upgrading the township wide video recording system are among the issues the board of trustees will discuss at tonight's meeting.

7 p.m. – Supervisor Mark Grabow calls the meeting to order and all assembled stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

7:06 p.m. – The board approves the consent agenda items, which include: requests from the fire department to attend training conferences; easement encroachment agreements for Elan Estates, Parkview Commons and The Fairways of Macomb subdivisions; requests to pay American Water Works Associations and SLC Meter Service Inc. for membership dues and services, respectively; and requests to post invitations to bid on MITN to provide various township services.

Additions/Deletions:

The board tabled the request to upgrade the township wide video recording system until the completion of the township's IT audit, which is currently underway. It will take three weeks for this audit to be completed.

The board will also table its executive session discussion of the AFSCME grievance, which was previously tabled on May 11. The union has requested the board table this issue until June 22.

An employee issue review has been added to the board's executive session.

7:09 p.m. – The board has approved the rezoning of the parcel located on the southwest corner of 25 Mile and Romeo Plank roads. The parcel will be rezoned from residential (R-1-S) to office (O-1) to permit the construction of a low intensity development, or low-rise office building.

7:10 p.m. – The board has approved a request to extend time for the final preliminary plat for Harmony Acres subdivision, located on the south side of 24 Mile Roda, three-quarters of a mile east of Romeo Plank Road.

7:13 p.m. – The board has approved a one-year extension for the tentative preliminary plat for for Battaglia subdivision, located on the east side of North Avenue, approximately one-quarter mile north of Hall Road.

7:14 p.m. – The board has approved a request to extend time for the final preliminary plat for Pinnacle Farms subdivision, located approximately one-half mile south of 23 Mile Road and three-quarters of a mile east of North Avenue.

7:15 p.m. – The board has approved paying the township’s dues for membership in the Michigan Townships Association, a $6,238.10 total.

7:21 p.m. – The board has passed this issue to the Planning Commission so they can OK the township’s engineering firm, Spalding DeDecker Associates, to move forward in site work for the future vehicle garage of the township’s SMART/Dial-A-Ride buses.

The cost of building the garage will be paid for by funds accrued by the township through SMART community credits. At no time during the site work or the building of the garage itself, will township general funds be used.

Construction of the final structure is expected to qualify to be paid in full by Community Development Block Grant funds

7:22 p.m. – The house at the address 45603 Bristol Bay in Huntcliff Village, will be placed on the multi-list for 60 days in the hope of receiving a higher bid on the property.

7:29 p.m. - Approved purchase of 79 uniform shirts and pants for the fire department for $1,339 and $3,002, respectively.

7:31 p.m. – Approved bid of Litho Printing Serice, Inc. to publish 30,000 copies of the "2010" Water Connection for the Water and Sewer Department. The total cost of this project is $6,965, with some $4,000 in postage.

Supervisor's Comments

The township will not move forward with the issue of COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) grants.

Executive Session

The AFSCME Grievance 2011-001 has been tabled to June 22, by request of the union.

The baord has authorized legal counsel to sign the consent judgment on the tax tribunal matter of Kroger Company vs. Macomb Township, 23 Mile and Hayes Road.

The board has authorized a written warning be given to the employee involved in the disciplinary matter.
