Outdoor Burning of Fall Leaves Prohibited for Macomb Township Residents

The Macomb Township Fire Department reminds residents that fall leaves must be disposed of as yard waste.

As leaves on the ground begin to outnumber those on the trees, homeowners find themselves faced with the arduous task of raking and disposing of a season's worth of yard waste.

But as this clean-up process begins, the Macomb Township Fire Department asks residents to remember that open burning of leaves and other brush is strictly prohibited throughout the township.

However, with a permit, residents may burn brush, logs, branches and tree stumps. The burning of leaves, grass or any like material giving off foul odors of any kind is prohibited.

Leaves and other other yard waste should be placed in either 96-gallon curb carts, paper compost bags or 32-gallon trash cans clearly marked "Yard Waste." Do not use plastic bag liners. For the safety of Waste Management employees, containers weighing more than 32 gallons will not be collected.
