Position Description:

Under direct supervision of the Parks & Recreation Director this position performs work in the administration of community recreation programs including but not limited to sports, special events and trips. This position will assume responsibility for existing programs and will assist the department head in creating new programs.

Position requires frequent contact with employees and the general public with varying degrees of skill. Requires strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, as well as a working knowledge of the Parks & Recreation programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development, organization and implementation of programs and activities in support of the Parks & Recreation Department.
  • Assists in the administration of community programs by monitoring programs and participation to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, requirements, regulations and contractual obligations.
  • May write and distribute media releases, pamphlets, flyers, newsletters and other publicity materials for Department activities, events and programs.
  • May assist in planning, implementing and coordinating sponsorship programs to entice businesses to donate money, goods and services to the township’s recreation programs.
  • May perform various office duties, including but not limited to, processing program registrations, collecting fees, issuing receipts, reconciling funds, preparing purchase requisitions, and preparing and maintaining records and statistics.
  • Assists in development, compilation, production and distribution of manuals, rules, announcements and schedules for staff, volunteers and participants related to activities and programs.
  • Work in a flexible schedule including nights and weekends as required by the nature and responsibilities of the job.
  • Provide program supervision as needed.
  • Performs other duties, as required.

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Parks & Recreation, Education, Natural Resources, or a closely related field.

Work Experience:

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in sports programs and family events, preferably in a municipal setting.

Computer Skills:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience in Rec Trac operating systems and desktop publishing software preferred.

Other Skills/Abilities:

  • Should possess good organizational and interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communication and public speaking with good customer service abilities.
  • Ability to interact with community groups, organizations and volunteers.
  • Should be highly motivated, enthusiastic, eager to learn and willing to contribute to developing a positive team.
  • Possess the necessary physical requirements to complete required duties that include; the ability to stand, bend, squat, stoop, climb and the exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities to work within a “Team Environment.”
  • Must be able to pass a post offer pre-employment physical including drug screen.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license in good standing.
  • Must possess a CPR and First Aid certification within six months of date of hire.
