The wage increase will cost Macomb Township approximately $9,800.

If you are a part-time Macomb Township Parks and Recreation Department employee, you soon will be seeing an increase in your paycheck.

The Board of Trustees approved a pay rate adjustment Dec. 12 for the township’s part-time Parks and Recreation employees. The increase will cost the township $9,800 and will go into affect Jan. 1 or July 1, depending on when minimum wage changes occur.

The Parks and Recreation Department employs 80-100 part-time employees depending on the season.

“In 2004, when the Recreation Center opened, our philosophy was to stay 25 cents above minimum wage for our base pay,” said Sal DiCaro, Parks and Recreation director. Minimum wage is currently $7.40 in Michigan.

The wage scale is as follows:

  • Attendant - $7.50 to $7.65 an hour
  • Lifeguard - $8 to $8.15 an hour
  • Front Desk - $8.50 to $8.65 an hour
  • Assistant - $11 to $11.15 an hour

Parks and Recreation Department employees help run the and assist with many of the township-sponsored programs, including the recent holiday tree lighting.
