Although Romney wasn't the preferred nominee of some at the Republican Committee of Northern Macomb County's watch party in Shelby Township, Philis DeSaele, chair of the Sterling Heights-Utica Republicans, summed up her party's feelings saying, "It doesn't matter. We are supporting Republican candidates. Anyone is better than (President Barack) Obama."

Macomb Township Republican Caucus John Wolfsberger Jr. echoed DeSaele's sentiments.

"Every single (candidate)–all four–have strengths and weaknesses and I think that after all is said and done, the primary is over and the convention has selected a nominee, we have to remember that we're adults," Wolfsberger said. "We're not looking for the Second Coming in a candidate and what we want is someone who will be an effective chief executive, follow the law and work with Congress."

Texas Congressman Ron Paul won 924 Macomb Township votes, while former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich took 725 of his own. A total of 184 Republican votes were cast "uncommitted."
