State of the Township Set for Feb. 18

Supervisor Mark Grabow will make the state of the township address as part of the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce Good Morning Macomb series.

On Feb. 18, Macomb Township Supervisor Mark Grabow will deliver the annual state of the township address at Sycamore Hills Golf Club.

Grabow will discuss the township's 2010 accomplishments and introduce new plans for the township's government and businesses in 2011. Follow @MacombPatch on Twitter for live updates from the event.

This event, set to begin at 8 a.m., is the second installment of the six-part Good Morning Macomb series presented by the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce.

Because the chamber of commerce is hosting the event, there is an associated fee to attend–$25 for chamber members and $30 for nonmembers.

Macomb Township resident Lisa Nash addressed the board of trustees during its Feb. 9 meeting to express her concerns that such a fee may prove a barrier to Macomb Township residents wishing to hear the address.

"Many residents (of Macomb) are retired and living on fixed incomes," Nash said. "Many of my neighbors and friends have been affected by unemployment, so I was surprised to read that the state of the township was going to have a charge."

Nash asked the board to consider canceling the breakfast in lieu of holding the event at the Macomb Township in order to make it free and available to all residents.

But Grabow said because as the event was organized by the chamber of commerce, rather than the township, it would be impossible to cancel the function at this late date.

"(The chamber is) a private entity asking us to come in and speak," Grabow said. "This is done locally the same throughout every community."

However, Grabow did note that the address would be broadcast on the township's cable station, Channel 5, as it has been in past years.
