We Want You to Spend the Presidential Primary with Patch

We'll be monitoring precinct results, but we need you to supply the action with photos and comments from the polls and watch parties you visit.

At long last it's primary day in Michigan and Macomb Patch is set to cover the action from the moment polls open until the results are finalized.

Early estimates predicted around 16,000 Macomb Township voters would head to the polls today, but with only four Republican candidates still in the race, turnout could be slightly lower.

"We sent out around 6,000 (absentee) ballots, but we're not getting the typical return," said Macomb Township Clerk Michael Koehs. "We're getting around an 80 percent return, which is a little disappointing, because it's normally around 92-95 percent by now."

Koehs attributes this decrease to the fact that some voters' preferred candidates are no longer in the race. If this feeling extends to voters who had planned to visit the polls, actual turnout could be lower than first expected.

Patch will be checking in with Macomb's precincts throughout the day, but could use a few extra eyes and ears in the field.
