Berak Enjoys Breakout Bowling Season

Dakota senior has been named to the second team all-state, helped lead his team to the state bowling title and boasts a 3.71 GPA.

From a bowling perspective, Brad Berak has had a breakout year.

Berak was named second team all-state this season. He’s been a member of the varsity team for two years, after bowling two years at the junior varsity level. His conference average was 212.81, with a high game of 269 and high two-game series of 491.

“Brad is constantly working on improving his bowling game and works very hard in the classroom, too,” said Dakota bowling coach Joe Berak. “He holds a 3.71 grade point average.”

He’s won numerous singles events, including the L’Anse Creuse North singles event where he bowled a 280 during qualifying. Berak took first at the Motor City Team Challenge singles event with a series of 747 and a 270 game and placed 10th in singles at the Macomb County Championships with a 680 series. In addition, Berak finished in first place in the Bay City Singles Tournament and was the scholarship winner. He was the second-place qualifier in the state regional singles event.

“Last year he missed qualifying for state singles competition by 15 pins, after inadvertently stepping in pop and having to finish his last game wearing house shoes,” coach Berak said. “In spite of that misfortune, he never gave up that day and he fought hard through those remaining frames. I think that experience made him a more mature and determined person and that attitude carried over to this year. I couldn’t be prouder of Brad finishing his high school bowling career on such a positive note.”

And, Brad Berak helped the Dakota team win a little thing called the state team bowling championship.

“They say children are a reflection of their parents, and like my father before me, I can truly understand the joy and excitement of watching your children grow and succeed in what they do,” coach Berak said.

Coach Berak just happens to also be Brad’s father.
