Chippewa Valley Board to Talk Summer Taxes, Refunding Bonds for $2.8 Million in Savings

The Chippewa Valley Schools board of education meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, in the boardroom of the Administration Building at 19120 Cass Ave., in Clinton Township.

The refunding of bonds and collection of 2013 summer taxes are among the issues Chippewa Valley Schools' board of education members will discuss at tonight's meeting.

The following is a short overview of some of the items on the Nov. 5 agenda:

  • Board approval needed to OK the sale and issuance of 2013 refunding bonds "if determined to be in the best interest of the district." The district's financial advisor estimates that refunding bonds beginning May 1, 2013 could results in savings of around $2.8 million.
  • Special presentation to recognize the Chippewa Valley High School girls swim and dive team, which won its third consecutive county meet championship in October.
  • Board approval needed to continue collecting summer taxes in 2013.
  • Board approval needed to adopt a new policy for post issuance tax compliance. The IRS is expected to pay closer attention to tax exempt debt obligations and as school district debt obligations are tax exempt, Chippewa Valley's attorneys have advised a written policy regarding this issue be adopted.

Although it is not on the agenda, the board may also address the issue of busing to St. Thecla Catholic and St. Luke Lutheran school students. A group of St. Thecla Catholic School parents have attended the past three meetings to urge board members to restore the bus service Chippewa once provided their children.
