DeVos a Dangerous Three-Spot Hitter for Crusaders

L'Anse Creuse North junior Alyse DeVos was named Most Improved Team Player at the Saginaw Valley volleyball camp this summer for the Crusaders.

Alyse DeVos hit up a storm at the Crusader's volleyball camp last week and she came home as the team's most improved player and most valuable hitter.

The junior was a standout at the five-day resident camp at Saginaw Valley State University and was named the team's most improved player by LCN's volleyball coach, Gary Malburg.

"I did pretty well at camp personally and I improved," DeVos said. "I think coach saw that and wanted to show that he appreciated my hard work."

DeVos is starting into her third season on the varsity squad and this year Malburg is looking for big hits from the right-handed spiker.

"This is Alyse's third year on varsity so she has a lot of experience for a young player," Malburg said. "She is the only hitter we have right now that can play all three front row hitting spots, which is very, very valuable for our team. A lot of kids struggle playing the middle and she came up and played middle for us as a freshman, which is one of the hardest things to do.

"She's starting to move around a little bit now so we can create some mismatches with our opponents. We wouldn't be able to do that if she wasn't talented enough to play all three hitting spots. She also has good ball control and just hasn't had the opportunity to improve during her freshman and sophomore years. She did great at camp, which gives us a lot of hope this year of her being able to stay in the game.  It'll add a lot of continuity to our game."

The Crusaders are looking to improve on their 6-4 finish last year in the Macomb Area Conference gold division.

"We have a number of new girls this year and a lot of versatility," DeVos said. "We have a lot of options. I'm looking forward to the start of the season."
