Huron Valley Superintendent to Head L'Anse Creuse Public Schools

The L'Anse Creuse board of education named Jacqueline Johnston as the district's top choice for superintendent during a special meeting Monday.

L'Anse Creuse Public Schools has at last chosen a new superintendent. The board of education named Jacqueline Johnston to the post by unanimous vote during a special board meeting Monday night.

Johnston currently serves as superintendent of Huron Valley Schools in Oakland County. According to HVS, details of Johnston’s transition have not yet been determined.

“The Board of Education felt the burden to find the superintendent to lead the district,” said Board President Ken Hoover, in a prepared statement. “With the help of our community and stakeholders, a profile was developed and a national search was launched. The result of these combined efforts was the unanimous approval of Ms. Johnston.”

The new superintendent holds a master's in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University, where she is currently pursuing her doctorate in education, and a bachelor of accountancy from Walsh College in Troy, MI.

Johnston noted that some of her greatest achievements while at Huron Valley include reductions to the achievement gap across subgroups and being a founding member of the Huron Valley Promise program sponsored through the educational foundation to promote greater enrollment in post-secondary education.

“I believe my combined experiences of raising academic achievement, while proactively implementing positive financial solutions during this tough economic time in Michigan, will transcend to the L’Anse Creuse community," said Johnston, in a prepared statement.

L'Anse Creuse reviewed more than 60 applications for the position and interviewed three candidates for the post, for which Johnston was ultimately selected.

“I’m looking forward to introducing Ms. Johnston to our community and working collaboratively to move our district forward,” Hoover said, in a prepared statement.

Prior to working in Oakland County schools, Johnston served as the director of purchasing, business services and audits for Warren Consolidated Schools, which included managing the district’s $120 million budget.
