Kindergarten Registration: Macomb School Districts Enrolling for 2012-13

Chippewa Valley, L'Anse Creuse, Utica and New Haven are currently enrolling resident students and School of Choice students for kindergarten.

Time's running out to enroll your soon-to-be kindergarten student in a local program.

Chippewa Valley, L'Anse Creuse, Utica and New Haven are currently enrolling resident students as well as School of Choice students for kindergarten during the 2012-13 school year. These districts will offer only all-day kindergarten.

Staffing levels at the schools are based on registration, so it's important that districts know their enrollment levels as early as possible.

Chippewa Valley Schools

Parents can register directly at the school where their child will attend. All elementary buildings and will have registration packets available for pick up and/or mailing during the remaining school year.

In the summer, when the school buildings are closed, parents can make an appointment by calling the Pupil Accounting Department at 586-723-2007.

Schools of Choice: Unlimited enrollment. Call the Community Relations Department at 586-723-2240 for more information. Applicants must be residents living within Macomb County and able to provide their own student transportation. Applications must be returned to: Chippewa Valley Schools, Community Relations Dept., 19120 Cass Avenue, Clinton Twp., MI  48038. The application can be faxed to 586-723-2001.

L'Anse Creuse Public Schools

Resident parents can enroll a child in the L'Anse Creuse school he or she will attend any time during the remaining school year and when the buildings re-open in August. Registration is done at the school the child is slated to attend. 

Parents should call the district's curriculum office at 586-783-6300.

Schools of Choice: Unlimited enrollment. Registration is open through June 15. Visit the L'Anse Creuse Schools of Choice website for more information. Applicants must be residents living within Macomb County.

Utica Community Schools

Resident parents can enroll a child in the Utica school he or she will attend any time during the remaining school year. Summer registration is available two weeks before the start of the school year.

To determine which school a child will attend, contact the Pupil Services Department at 586-797-1120.

Schools of Choice: The application for Schools of Choice is available at this link. Parents are able to request any school, but space at some schools may be limited given current registration numbers. Applicants must be residents living within Macomb County.

New Haven Community Schools

Enrollment packets for new students are available at all school buildings between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Throughout the school year, parents can directly enroll at the schools their children will attend. For questions or further information, please call the school your child will attend, or the main district office at 586-749-5123.

Schools of Choice: Unlimited enrollment. Enrollment is open May 1-Aug. 30. These documents must be printed and returned for registration. Applicants must be residents living within Macomb County.

Documents Required to Register

Parents planning to register their child should have the following information readily available:

  • Parent identification (driver's license or state ID)
  • Original birth certificate
  • Proof of residency (recent closing papers, current lease agreement in parents name, or multiple current utility bills with parent name and address)
  • Proof of immunizations
  • Vision and hearing test

Children who will be 5 years old on or before Dec. 1 of a school year are eligible to attend kindergarten.

Age Requirements Change in 2013-14

Starting in 2013-14, children will have to turn 5 years old on or before Nov. 1, 2013. For 2014-15, children will have to turn 5 years old on or before Oct. 1, 2014. Then, starting with the 2015-16 school year, children will have to turn 5 years old before Sept. 1 

All school districts in Michigan will be subject to these new eligibility dates.
