Mohawk Elementary Teacher Moves to Algonquin Middle as Assistant Principal

Former fourth- and fifth-grade Mohawk Elementary teacher, Raymond Buccilli, is the new assistant principal at Algonquin Middle School.

teacher Raymond Buccilli will soon have a new role as assistant principal at Algonquin Middle School.

Buccilli was promoted to the assistant principal post after that job was vacated by new Mohawk principal . The move was approved by the Chippewa Valley school board on Aug. 15.

A fourth- and fifth-grade teacher at Mohawk, Buccilli also served as an administrative intern at , and Wyandot Middle Schools.

"All except Algonquin," Superintendent Ron Roberts joked.

"He's done a number of internships, so he's had a chance to get a feel for the position, and others have had a chance to learn what Ray is all about," Roberts said.

Throughout his career, Buccilli has taught students in fourth through eighth grades at multiple schools.

During the 2006-07 school year, he served as the teacher-in-charge for Iroquois Middle School and from 2007-2010 as a co-director for the University Liggett Summer Day Camp, where he was responsible for overseeing all camp activities. 

He was the head varsity baseball coach at South Lake High School from 1990-2006 and more recently the freshman baseball coach. He also spent 14 years as the athletic coordinator for Iroquois Middle School.

"I've been surrounded by a lot of good people over the last 14-15 years in Chippewa Valley," Buccilli said. "I have been through five different schools now, including Algonquin, so I'm well traveled both north and south of M-59 and I've met a lot of great people who have taught me a lot of different things." 

Buccilli earned his bachelor's degree in public relations and film studies, and master’s in teaching from Wayne State University. He also holds an education specialist degree in leadership from Oakland University.
