New Haven Opens 30 Seats for Schools of Choice

A limited number of seats in grades 4-12 will be available for students outside the New Haven district starting June 1.

Starting June 1, New Haven Community Schools will open 30 seats in grades 4-12 for students from outside New Haven.

The 2011-12 school year will be the first year New Haven has participated in Schools of Choice, although it will do so on a limited scale.

From June 1-15, Macomb County families interested in the Schools of Choice option can submit their applications to New Haven Schools. The window for accepting Schools of Choice applications will open June 1, but applications are currently available on the New Haven website.

Because New Haven's Schools of Choice participation is "limited," the district will only open a certain number of seats per grade level until the limit of 30 is reached. Should more people apply than there are seats, the district will hold a lottery.

Not all grade levels will have open seats.
