On the Agenda: What Chippewa Valley School Board Will Cover at Tonight's Meeting

Money will be the main topic of tonight's board of education meeting, with 2010-11 and 2011-12 appropriations leading the discussion.

A glance at the Chippewa Valley Schools Board of Education's June 20 agenda suggests that it could be a long night for trustees as they review 2010-11 and 2011-12 appropriations, the district's breakfast programs and numerous other topics in preparation for next school year.

The board meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Chippewa Valley Administration Building, 19120 Cass Ave., Clinton Township, MI 48038.

The following is an overview of some of the items on the agenda:

  • Approve 2010-11 Appropriation Act Amendment for General and Special Revenue Funds: 
  1. Of the $150,086,348 total available to appropriate, the district will use $134,358,343 for instruction needs, support services (including operations and maintenance and transportation) and community services. With these appropriations, the estimated fund balance as of June 30, 2011 is $15,728,005.
  2. Of the $4,602,940 total available to appropriate for the International Academy of Macomb, $2,887,233 will be used for basic instruction, support services, payments to other schools and fund modifications to leave an estimated $1,715,707 in the fund as of June 30, 2011.
  3. 7.65 mills will be certified for levy on all property in the district for the purpose of retiring principal and interest on the voted debt of the district.
  • Approve 2011-12 Appropriation Act for General and Special Revenue Funds:
  1. Of the $145,215,360 total available to appropriate, $133,709,839 will be used to fund instruction needs, support services and community services, leaving an estimated $11,505,521 in the fund as of June 30, 2012.
  2. Revenue from the millage levy of 18.000 mills on nonhomestead and nonqualified agricultural property be certified and used toward the district's 2011-12 operating expenditures.
  3. Of the $4,093,377 total available in the Food Service Fund, $3,740,500 be used to fund wages, employee benefits and food purchases, leaving an estimated $352,877 in the fund as of June 30, 2012.
  • Approve the Breakfast Program for the 2011-12 school year with the following conditions:
  1. Schools with free/reduced applications totaling less than 20 percent of enrollment in October 2010 will not have to offer a breakfast program.
  2. Schools with free/reduced applications totaling more than 20 percent of enrollment in October 2010 will have to offer a breakfast program. These schools are: Clinton Valley Elementary, Cherokee Elementary, Erie Elementary, Fox Elementary, Huron Elementary, Miami Elementary, Ojibwa Elementary, Ottawa Elementary, Algonquin Middle School, Wyandot Middle School and Iroquois Middle School.
  • Approve Breakfast and Lunch Prices for 2011-12:

Compared to the 2010-11 prices, lunch has increased by 10 cents and milk by 5 cents.

  • Approve the 2004 and 2010 bond issue Change Order Summary Reports for May 2011: All funds needed are within the contingency budget allocation. Funding will come from the 2004 and 2010 Building & Site Funds.
  • Approve Tire Bid: Allocated almost $40,000 for the purchase of new tires, retread tires and related services for the Transportation Department.
