Your Guide to Kindergarten Programs and Enrollment in Macomb Township

In Michigan, children must be at least 5 years old on or before Nov. 1, 2013 to enroll in kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year.

Public and private schools in Macomb Township and across Macomb County have started enrolling kindergarten students for the 2013-14 academic year.

Under Michigan's new kindergarten start dates, a child can be enrolled in a program for the 2013-14 year if they are at least 5 years old on or before Nov. 1, 2013.

To make the selection of a program and the ultimate enrollment process easier, Patch has compiled a list of need-to-know information from schools in the area.

What you will need to register:

A parent or legal guardian must register a student. Most schools required the following items to be provided at the time of enrollment:

  • Birth Certificate: Student's original birth certificate with a raised seal as required by law.
  • Immunization Records
  • Hearing and Vision screening
  • Proof of Residency (for public districts): Two current and different utility bills (must be tied to the home) with: name of resident, address of service must match address on ID, show current date (not older than 2-3 months).
  • Guardianship (if applicable): Non-Blood Relative-legal documentation obtained from Probate Court. Blood Relative-Notarized Power of Attorney drawn up by parent. Appointment required with Pupil Accounting Department to complete an Affidavit of Parent/Guardian.
  • Photo ID: The parent or legal guardian should be prepared to show photo ID such as driver's license, state ID or passport. The photo ID will be copied and parent identification will be verified with the birth certificate.

New Haven Community Schools

Immanuel Lutheran School

Utica Community Schools

  • Open House: All 25 Utica elementary schools will host these events on Wednesday, March 6 at 7 p.m.
  • The district offers a full day kindergarten program for all students, a Montessori kindergarten and a Mandarin Chinese immersion/traditional kindergarten program.
  • Registration Forms and Waiver Form (for students who are turning 5 years of age between Nov. 1 and Dec. 1, 2013)

Macomb Area

St. Lawrence School

  • Registration Forms
  • Type all information on these forms online; print them out and return them along with the $100 enrollment fee per family to the school office at 44429 Utica Rd., Utica.

Peace Lutheran School

  • Open House: Tuesday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Parents interested in enrolling their child can also set up a meeting with the principal and/or a tour of the building by calling 586-731-4120.
  • Half and full-day kindergarten programs are available.

Trinity Lutheran School - Utica

  • Application for Enrollment
  • Open House: Wednesday, 9-11 a.m., March 13, 20, 27 and April 5.
  • New family registrations begin March 1.  
  • All new kindergarten students must complete a Brigance Screening before being accepted into the program. There is a fee for the screening.

Clintondale Community Schools

  • Open House: March 26, 27 and 28, 12:30-3:30 p.m. and March 27, 6-8 p.m., at McGlinnen, Parker, and Rainbow Elementary.

St. Thecla Catholic School

  • Current Kindergarten - Eighth Grade Tuition
  • Call the school office at 586-791-2170 to set up an appointment for a campus tour. Enrollment packets are available at the school office at 20740 S. Nunneley.

St. Luke Lutheran School

  • Open House: Tuesday, Feb. 12, 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
